Location of Hotel Touring in Val Gardena
A superb skiing and hiking area, Val Gardena is something of a gem of a valley, being set in the heart of South Tyrol. Close to the Austrian border in northern Italy, the valley has plenty to offer tourists in all seasons. In winter, the slopes of the Dolomites mean that winter sports are very much on the agenda, including skiing, snowboarding and back country tours. In summer, there are superb trails and hiking routes which are the perfect way of discovering the delightful landscape of this impressive mountain range. Many of these routes are suitable for children as well as adults and are usually lined with stunning mountain flowers from the middle of spring onwards.
Hotel Touring is located in the traffic restricted area of the town center of Santa Cristina Val Gardena.
Val Gardena boasts three cosy villages which were very well known for their wood carving culture, particularly of dolls, which meant that the valley was called the Capital of Toyland in the nineteenth century. The villages are linked by an east-west road, with Santa Cristina - in the middle - being flanked by Ortisei, to the west, and Selva di Val Gardena, to the east.
The valley is easily reached from a number of international airports which are close by. Innsbruck, over the border with Austria, or Verona, to the south, are both excellent choices summer or winter, but you could also opt for Bergamo, too. Onward travel to Val Gardena is straightforward, with the road being kept open even in the height of the mid-winter snow, as you might expect from a valley famed for its skiing resorts. The valley lies a short transfer from the nearby station at Chiusa, too.
